A dedicated mega cruise terminal will be built at Port of Brisbane, completely funded by the private sector and opening up the whole state to cruise tourism.
According to Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, the US$158 million cost would be borne by Port of Brisbane corporation, after the government agreed with the project.
As the biggest ocean liners are unable to fit under Brisbane's Gateway Bridge, there have been calls for a dedicated cruise terminal at the Port for years.
Early work on the site will start in November, with wharf's construction to begin mid-2018 and work on the terminal in 12 months.
