Mexico is among the main cruise destination for international voyages, with a 9% annual increase in the number of passengers. The Caribbean region has the highest number of cruisers registered annually.
Yucatan Gov. Rolando Zapata Bello recently revealed that Yucatan is ready to welcome a larger number of cruises, as it offers the necessary infrastructure, products and services. Bello made the overtures in a working meeting with presidents and owners of the world's main cruise lines and with the ministers of tourism of 15 Caribbean nations, held at the 24th Annual Conference of FCCA (Florida Caribbean Cruise Association), in Merida (around 40 km from Progreso) last week.
