The Coast Guard has medevaced an 87-year-old woman from a Viking Cruises ship 180 miles off Norfolk coast Monday night, October 31.
Watchstanders at 5th Coast Guard District Command Center, Portsmouth were notified at around 12:30 p.m. on Monday that the passenger had fallen and injured her hip onboard the Viking Sky.
At the time, the cruise ship was approx 250 miles northeast of Norfolk. USCG watchstanders directed the crew to move the vessel closer to shore.
MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and Coast Guard HC-130 Hercules airplane launched from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City to meet with the cruise ship.
The helicopter crew lifted the lady and her husband from Viking Sky and transported them to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
