Auckland port will soon be able to accommodate the increasing number of large cruise ships providing thousands of jobs and millions of dollars for the city.
Auckland Council agreed to proceed with the development of 2 outer dolphin mooring structures situated between 80-85 metres off Queens wharf's northern edge, connected through a walkway, as the safest option for berthing vessels over 300 metres long.
The dolphin, available for 2019-2020 season, will allow more 350-metre cruise ships to call at Auckland providing a boost to the US$220 million and 4,000 jobs the cruise industry already adds to the economy of the region.
The estimated cost of the outer dolphins is US$10 million.
