Valletta Cruise Port, operator of Valletta Waterfront and the sea passenger terminals as well as a subsidiary of Global Ports Holding celebrated 700,000 cruise passenger movements.
One lucky passeger, who arrived in the port of Valletta aboard MSC Meraviglia, was chosen as the 700,000th cruiser and given the opportunity to return to Malta with a 3-day break inclusive of flights for 2 persons, courtesy of Malta Tourism Authority.
Valletta Cruise Port plc is expecting to close 2017 with record passenger movements (approx 780,000), aboard 340 cruise visits, with 2018 due to be on the same levels. In 2016 cruise industry contributed more than EUR 94 million to the local economy.
Valletta Cruise Port began operating its 2nd regular homeporting operation, with P&O Oceana, in addition to TUI Cruises' weekly homeporting operation, which operated for 7th consecutive season.
2018 will be important for Valletta Cruise Port, marked by the port hosting MedCruise General Assembly in May 2018, in a year that Valletta will be awarded the title of European Capital of Culture.
