The first “mega” cruise liner will visit Alaska during summer 2018.
The 4,000-guest Norwegian Bliss starts making Alaskan port calls in June. The “megaships” are part of the trend sending more travellers to Alaska by sea.
The cruise ships will carry up to twice as many guests as some current vessels in Alaska.
Norwegian Bliss will sail weeklong round-trips from Seattle, stopping in Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan. It will also sail to Sawyer Glacier, Tracy Arm Fjord.
Royal Caribbean's 5,000-passenger Ovation of the Seas starts sailing to Alaska 2019. The ship will also be based in Seattle. Its Alaskan itinerary has not been posted yet.
