A land & sea search is ongoing for a passenger who went overboard from a Norwegian Cruise Line ship.
Coastguards said that Norwegian Spirit raised the alarm at around 2:00 a.m. Tuesday morning, April 3.
Spanish Civil Guard and coastguards took part in a major sea search involving a number of vessels. A couple of Spanish Coastguard helicopters and a plane were also mobilised.
The search was focused on an area close to Mazarron, Murcia, southeast Spain.
Norwegian Spirit, with about 3,000 vacationers onboard, was due to dock in Costa Blanca capital Alicante.
The missing passenger, a 34-year-old man of Saudi Arabian origin, hasn't been named. Authorities haven't yet made clear in what circumstances he went overboard.
The next scheduled stop of Norwegian Spirit after Alicante is Barcelona.
