Royal Caribbean’s newest ship, Symphony of the Seas, is set to claim the record of being the largest ship in the world after having her inaugural journey in Barcelona over the weekend.
Having the capacity to carry nearly 9000 people onboard, the liner weighs 228,021 tonnes, which is more than 18,000 double-deckers, and measures 362 m in length.
Symphony of the Seas boasts a park, shopping mall, 23 restaurants and boardwalk, along with a grand slide running up to 10 storeys.
Following a 5-night preview cruise to Naples and Civitavecchia-Rome, Symphony’s maiden cruise departed from Barcelona, her current home port, on Saturday, April 7, for a 7-day tour of the Mediterranean. This fall the ship will sail to Miami FL where she will make her permanent home.
Symphony of the Seas will be the first Royal Caribbean Oasis-class ships to make her home port in Miami FL. The company will start offering 7-night itineraries of the eastern and western Caribbean later this year.
