Princess Cruises' ship Star Princess was due to arrive in Astoria OR on Sunday, April 8, but had to bypass Columbia River Bar because of impending storm.
The ship is heading from San Francisco to Vancouver BC, and had been scheduled to visit Astoria carrying up to 2,600 guests.
According to Bruce Conner, cruise ship marketer for Port of Astoria, the decision was made to stay at sea due to safety and scheduling concerns. He has begun the process of contacting vendors, restaurants, volunteer hosts, tour guides, Sunset Empire Transportation District as well as others involved in cruise ship calls.
In May Astoria is expected to have 5 cruise ships visit. Overall, the port city is scheduled to welcome 24 cruise ships in 2017 carrying over 35,000 passengers.
