The new flagship cruise liner of German TUI Cruises was delivered today, April 25, from Meyer Turku shipyard in south west Finland.
The new Mein Schiff 1 is the 5th Mein Schiff built by Meyer Turku for TUI Cruises. The vessel is some 20 metres longer than the earlier model (Mein Schiff 3 and Mein Schiff 4) measuring some 315 m in length, Meyer Turku stated in a press release.
Mein Schiff 1 is 36 m wide and has 3,132-passenger capacity and 1,437 passenger cabins. The cruiser will sail under the flag of Malta.
The newbuild set sail to Germany, and then will be officially christened in Hamburg on May 11. Mein Schiff 1 will take its first guests shortly after that, the company revealed.
Meyer Turku has another liner under construction, Mein Schiff 2, while TUI Cruises has already ordered a 3rd ship, to be named Mein Schiff 7, due to be completed in 2023.
