The maritime technology company Wartsila announced the acquisition of the UK-based marine company Transas.
Control of the Transas company was transferred to Wartsila. The acquisition, announced in March 2018, features a transaction value (enterprise value) of EUR 210 million.
Transas is a popular global market leader in marine navigation solutions including complete bridge systems, electronic charts and digital products. It is also a leader in simulation services, professional training and ship traffic control systems.
Via the acquisition, Wartsila takes a step forward in achieving the mission of providing sustainable societies with smart technology. The deal is expected to speed delivery on company’s promise to disrupt industry by establishing Smart Marine ecosystem. Wartsila envisions smart future through the development of applications which leverage artificial intelligence and machine learning.
Currently, Transas has net annual sales in the region of EUR140 million and approximately 1000 employers working from 22 regional offices around the world. They will all become integrated within Wartsila’s Marine Solutions business.
It is expected that the large base of software engineers of the company will play key role in assisting Wartsila in the development of a digital platform and smart products.
