Eclipse Travel (AU-based tour operator) announced an unique solar eclipse themed cruises scheduled for 2021. The Antarctica voyage will be on the Russian icebraker ship Akademik Ioffe.
The eclipse will occur on December 4 (Saturday), making landfall on Antarctica south of South America. The 20-day cruise departs from Ushuaia Argentina on November 23, 2021. Fares start at US$16,795 per person triple share, plus a credit of US$1,000 to spend with the cruise company of Eclipse Travel.
Before the eclipse, the itinerary explores the wildlife-rich Falkland Islands as well as the remote South Georgia Island, both home to unique birdlife and wildlife. Passengers can see penguin rookeries with over 100,000 nesting birds and beaches that are covered in elephant seals and fur seals.
The path of totality for the eclipse lies close to South Orkney Islands, where the ship will be positioned to provide maximum possible exposure to the eclipse for viewing from observation decks.
The trip continues south to Antarctica with shore excursions accompanied by marine biologists, ornithologists, naturalists and resident photography professional.
Twin cabins start from US$19,195 per person, while suites are from US$25,095 per person. Sea kayaking places are available from US$795 per person.
