Seabourn introduced its newest cruise ship, Seabourn Ovation, with a christening ceremony in Valletta's harbour.
The cruise line orchestrated a lineup of events, including live performance by Ovation’s godmother, singer and actress Elaine Paige. After the performance, Paige made a traditional blessing and released a bottle of champagne against the vessel. The moment was broadcast on a huge screen for all guests of the maiden cruise and other invited attendees.
A full orchestra ensemble on the ship's Pool Deck performed themed musical work. Guests witnessed the debut of Seabourn's new anthem written by Tim Rice, “We Sail to See the Lives of Others,” performed publicly for the first time.
The evening was capped with fireworks display in Valletta's harbour.
Ovation is the 5th ultra-luxury ship to join the fleet of Seabourn over the past decade, and the 2nd of a couple of vessels designed for the company by Adam D. Tihany.
Seabourn Ovation departed on her 11-day Inaugural Mediterranean Spring cruise on May 5, bound for Barcelona, Spain. Afterwards, she will move onto a 2-week Vintage Europe trip headed for port of Ijmuiden (Amsterdam), Netherlands, and a 2-week Midsummer Baltic, arriving in Copenhagen late June, prior to heading to Russia as part of a week-long Baltic & Saint Petersburg cruise.
