AmaWaterways christened AmaLea, its newest river cruise ship, on Saturday (May 26) with an official ceremony in Vilshofen. The event concluded a week-long celebration, during which passengers onboard were joined by AmaLea Godmother Filomena Andre of AAA Travel, line's President & Co-Owner Rudi Schreiner, Executive Vice President & Co-Owner Kristin Karst, along with international media and travel industry friends.
Presiding over his 11th AmaWaterways naming ceremony, Capt. Jan de Bruijn assisted Godmother Filomena Andre with the traditional christening by champagne while more than 200 international and local guests joined in the afternoon event, which featured religious blessing, raising of traditional Bavarian maypole, dockside cocktail reception, local entertainment and welcome by Vilshofen Mayor Florian Gams. There was also a gala dinner and fireworks display.
The 154-passenger AmaLea features line's exclusive twin balconies, 4 suites (350 ft2), connecting and triple occupancy staterooms. Guests enjoy gourmet dining with free wine at multiple venues, such as The Chef's Table.
The ship also has a heated sun deck swimming pool, swim-up bar, spa & fitness center, complimentary Wi-Fi and in-room Entertainment-On-Demand. A fleet of bicycles is offered for passengers to enjoy complimentary.
During the summer and fall AmaLea sails 7-night cruises on Danube River between Vilshofen and Budapest before concluding her first season with 4 Iconic Christmas Market Cruises.
