Police and Marine Department are currently trying to determine what might have caused a ferry to go crashing into the outer parapet walls at Ocean Terminal in Tsim Sha Tsui district in Hong Kong on Monday, May 28.
Operated by Star Ferry, at the time of accident the boat was on its way from Central to Tsim Sha Tsui. It was about to arrive at Tsim Sha Tsui ferry pier at 5:00 p.m. when it veered off the course and slammed into the parapet walls outside Ocean Terminal, that serves cruise ships.
The accident startled many who were having their meals at an al fresco dining area at the terminal, with some diners taking to their heels amid fears for safety. Thankfully, none of them and the 136 passengers and 7 workers aboard the ferry, was injured.
The captain of the vessel sounded a horn to alert people on shore before the crash.
According to Star Ferry, its boat encountered mechanical failure.
