Travel retail giant Dufry signed deals that add almost 2,800 m2 of retail space, in an expansion of cruise ship retail operations.
The Swiss-based company signed a new contract with Holland America to operate shops onboard 8 ships, added another deal with Norwegian to operate shops onboard Norwegian Bliss and recently signed an agreement with Carnival to operate shops onboard Carnival Inspiration.
- Headlining the new business is the contract with Carnival Corporation's subsidiary, Holland America Line, which is to operate gift shops onboard 8 ships for the next 5 years covering 1,744 m2 of retail space. These shops will offer a variety of of products including liquor, tobacco, cosmetics, confectionery and perfumes, but also including souvenirs, sundries, apparel, fashion and leather accessories, electronics, souvenirs, sunglasses, fashion jewellery. Dufry and HAL will also develop new souvenir & logo program.
- The contract with Carnival Cruise Line expands Dufry’s partnership with Carnival Corp., which started in May last year, with operations onboard Carnival Valor and Carnival Sensation. The agreement with Carnival is for nearly 250 m2 of retail space, including core categories like fashion, fine watches and custom jewellery. With the new addition, Dufry Cruise Services is operating stores onboard 3 Carnival Cruise Line ships.
- The deal that was signed with Norwegian Cruise Line to operate on NCL Bliss also builds on long-term partnership. The contract is for 4 years, with operations having started in April including an option to extend for one more year. The retail space covers 750 m2, and offers all product categories. The offer includes brands like MontBlanc, Tag Heuer, Longines, Hublot, Colombian Emeralds International in combination with EFFY in fine jewellery, Dior, Clinic, Chanel, Estee Lauder, Lancome.
Due to these contracts, Dufry is now increasing its presence from 17 to 27 ships covering the major markets across Europe, Alaska, Asia and the Caribbean. Dufry plans to continue the expansion in the segment.
