Oprah Winfrey will serve as godmother for Holland America next ship, the 2,666-passenger ms Nieuw Statendam, due to debut in December 2018.
Nieuw Statendam's first cruise, scheduled to begin December 5, is a transatlantic sailing from Rome (Civitavecchia) to Fort Lauderdale FL. The ship will then spend the winter sailing to Caribbean from Fort Lauderdale prior to moving to Europe for summer trips to Norwegian Fjords, North Cape, Baltic and Iceland.
The christening, on a date which has yet to be set, will be the latest event at Holland America Line to involve Winfrey, who sailed on O, The Oprah Magazine-themed voyage organized by the cruise line last year.
The magazine-themed trip was the first of a series which the cruise company and O, The Oprah Magazine have been rolling out via partnership that also brought O, The Oprah Magazine-inspired activities aboard hundreds of other HAL sailings. These activities include tai chi, meditation classes, healthy cooking demonstrations, onboard book clubs.
Holland America also announced that Winfrey would sail on a 3-day "girls' getaway" voyage onboard ms Nieuw Statendam which departs Fort Lauderdale January 30, 2019. The trip will call at Holland America's private island, Half Moon Cay.
