MSC Cruises and STX France signed an order for the construction of a 5th Meraviglia class cruise ship.
Scheduled for delivery in 2023, the vessel will be equipped with new generation of dual-fuel engines specifically designed to run on LNG (liquefied natural gas).
The newbuild will also boast other innovative environmental technologies, including advanced wastewater treatment system compliant with the most stringent regulatory standards in the world, including the provisions enshrined in Resolution MEPC.227 for Baltic Sea.
The announcement was made at unique ceremony that was held at Saint-Nazaire shipyard in the presence of the French Minister of the Economy and Finance, Bruno Le Maire.
MSC Cruises and STX France celebrated 3 major ship building milestones: the steel cutting of the 4th Meraviglia class ship where MSC Cruises announced the ship will be named MSC Virtuosa; the float-out of MSC Bellissima and the coin ceremony of MSC Grandiosa.
For the first time in the history of Saint-Nazaire, 3 cruise ships belonging to a single brand are under simultaneous building at the shipyard.
The newest agreement for the additional Meraviglia-Plus vessel represents an additional investment of EUR 900 million.
