BC Ferries’ mv Spirit of British Columbia finished its conversion enabling it to use LNG as fuel and is now back in operation.
ABS-classed ferry Spirit of British Columbia is the first to have undergone conversion while its sister ship, Spirit of Vancouver Island, is due to complete conversion next year. The ships are the largest in the fleet of BC Ferries with a capacity of 358 cars, 2100 passengers and crew.
The LNG-conversion was completed at Remontowa Shipyard (Gdansk Poland). In 2013, ABS launched a global gas solutions team to support cruise industry in developing new gas-related projects.
