Boracay Welcomes Cruise Ships Back

Boracay Island opened its doors to tourists again in 3 months. DOT (Department of Tourism) announced that international cruise ships will revisit the most popular beach destination of the country.

According to DOT regional director for Western Visayas, Atty. Helen Catalbas, anywhere from 5 to 8 cruise ships are due to visit the island resort in Malay, Aklan province after October 26 until next year.

Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and Star Cruises are among the cruise lines expected to dock. Each of their cruise ships may carry anywhere between 1,500-4,500 passengers and crew.

Catalbas shared that Boracay was supposed to be one of the 3 major destinations for international cruise ships in the country. The other 2 include Manila and Palawan.

Via Boracay’s closure, the other cruise liners were diverted to Bohol and Subic Bay.

In 2017, a total of 15 cruise ships docked off Boracay's coast.
