ACL/American Cruise Lines announced that the first modern riverboat in the history of the United States was nearly complete. This week, ACL's American Song, under her own power, moved from East Outfitting Basin at Chesapeake Shipbuilding (Salisbury, MD) to the outfitting bulkhead of the yard for final outfitting touches.
American Song is due to make her historic inaugural voyage on October 6 on the Mississippi from New Orleans, during the Tri-centennial year of the port city.
The second modern riverboat in the series, American Song’s sistership American Harmony, is currently 5 and a half weeks ahead of schedule and is due to be launched later this fall. Harmony goes into service in 2019 spring on the Mississippi River where she will join a couple of American’s Victorian-style paddlewheelers, America and Queen of the Mississippi.
When she debuts in October, American Song will sail ACL's Lower Mississippi River itineraries until the end of the year (including American’s holiday-themed voyages throughout December) and will reposition to the West Coast on Columbia & Snake Rivers in 2019.
