A dramatic helicopter operation on a Clebrity Cruises ship homeported in Dublin was held this morning, August 15, off Wexford's coast.
A sick cruise passenger was airlifted from Celebrity Eclipse, following suspected cardiac arrest.
Coast Guard chopper Rescue 117 was sent at 4:15 a.m. Wednesday morning to winch the man off the cruise ship.
The vessel, which has a capacity of 2,850 cruise passengers and crew, was at the time of accident bound for Cobh-Cork having just left from Dublin.
Medical emergency was declared south of Saltee Islands, that lie around 5 km off Wexford coast. At 4:15 a.m. Rosslare Harbour Lifeboat was launched. Subsequently, Coast Guard helicopter Rescue 117 was called and winched the sick man together with his wife.
Both were then flown to hospital in Dublin where the patient is currently receiving treatment.
