Quebec City plans to build a 2nd cruise terminal able to handle ships carrying over 4,000 passengers.
The new terminal, due to be ready by 2020, will cost CAD 30 million. The city will invest CAD 5 million, port of Quebec CAD 10 million, and Quebec province CAD 15 million.
The project calls for a 100,000ft2 (9,290m2) cruise terminal, 2 gangways and enhancements to the berth in order to accommodate the new construction.
Port of Quebec would be the only turnaround port along St.Lawrence River which could accommodate ships of over 4,000 passengers, said Mario Girard, Quebec Port Authority CEO.
In 2018, a total of 8 ships are making inaugural calls to Quebec. Windstar and Disney Cruise Line are sailing to the port city for the first time.
