The new ship of Azamara Club Cruises, Azamara Pursuit, was officially christened in Southampton UK on Tuesday, August 28.
The 30,277 GT Azamara Pursuit, which was previously sailing as P&O Cruises' Adonia ship, was on her final trip as Adonia in February 2018. The ship has since undergone a 2-and-a-half-month refurb at Grand Bahamas Shipyard prior to sailing to the United Kingdom, whеre she received further enhancements at Belfast's Harland & Wolff shipyard.
According to Azamara CEO, Larry Pimentel, the 3rd ship of the cruise line will enable it to visit all 7 continents in 2019, notably South America, and to sail to 400 ports per year. The ship is due to visit 61 destinations, of which 15 maiden visits for the cruise line. The 3 ships will undertake a joint cruise from Slovenia to Venice in 2020.
The executive vice president and chief revenue officer of Afar Media, Ellen Asmodeo-Giglio, and editor in chief of Travel Weekly UK, Lucy Huxley, served as the godmothers of the 702-guest ship.
