On August 28, at 3 pm, Celebrity Infinity set a record on her 80th, final visit to Icy Strait Point - the only privately owned cruise ship destination in Alaska developed by Huna Totem Corp.
As sistership Celebrity Millennium departed, Infinity pulled into Icy Strait, marking the 1,000th cruise ship call and bringing in the 2,000,000th passenger since Icy Strait Point first opened in 2004.
The final Alaska sailing of Celebrity Infinity before repositioning to the Caribbean concludes the history of success in the 49th US state. Celebrity Cruises' Eclipse is taking over Infinity’s Alaskan program in May 2019, to bring an additional 650 passengers per visit.
In addition, Norwegian Cruise Lines’ NCL Joy will call on Icy Strait next year. At approximately 4,000 guests each, Joy and her sister ship Bliss are the largest cruisers scheduled to sail in Alaska 2019.
In 2004, its first season of operation, Icy Strait Point saw only 32 cruise ship calls.
