AIDA Cruises named its latest newbuild AIDAnova on Friday evening, August 31. The spectacular christening ceremony took place at the sold-out AIDA Open Air at Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, and was attended by 25,000 spectators.
The highlight was the biggest solo headline show by DJ and producer David Guetta. AIDAnova was illuminated with laser and lighting effects in front of the shipyard hall, and a laser show brought the cruiser to life.
For the first time it wasn't just one godmother who named the vessel but rather an entire family: Asad (33) Mirza, Sonja (31), and their kids Adrian (3) and Sophia (2) from Hanau. Sonja spoke the blessing.
At the end of September, the AIDAnova ship will be going on her first short voyage, setting sail for Eemshaven, Netherlands for final sea trials and fit-out. AIDA Cruises will take over the newbuild from Meyer Werft shipyard on November 15, in Bremerhaven. From mid-December 2018, during her premiere season, AIDAnova will be sailing to the Canaries and Madeira on 7-day cruises.
