A ferry ship carrying 124 people (97 passengers plus 27 crew) caught fire on Sunday, September 2, close to the Port Taloot, Argao, Cebu.
PCG (Philippine Coast Guard) announced there were no casualties involving Lite Ferry 28, as all people aboard were able to get off the burning vessel at around 11:45 a.m. All ferry passengers were safely disembarked at port Argao in good condition.
MV Lite Ferry 28 (operated by Cebu-based Lite Shipping Corporation) had left Tagbilaran, Bohol, and was en-route to Cebu when the onboard fire broke out. The vessels BRP Capones and LCT Miami arrived to the site to asssist extinguishing the fire.
The PCG didn't name the captain and the ship owner. The cause of the accident has yet to be determined.
PCG is due to investigate the accident, in coordination with Bureau of Fire Protection.
