A Norwegian Cruise Line ship sailing to Mexico and Caribbean from Miami Florida stopped almost as soon as it had departed on Sunday, September 2, to rescue 4 distressed Cuban nationals spotted "in the middle of the ocean", a representative for the cruise line announced.
According to a cruise passenger on Twitter, the four men were spotted by others onboard by a “flash in the middle of the ocean.”
According to a representative for the cruise line, the men had immediately been taken to Norwegian Getaway’s medical facility for care and provided with food and clothing.
The Bahamas Maritime Authority and U.S. Coast Guard had been notified by the Captain of the ship, who had been advised to disembark the individuals at the next port of call in Costa Maya on September 4.
The cruise ship reportedly continued on its 7-day trip, arriving at Costa Maya on Tuesday before heading to Belize the next day.
