The ferry company Red Funnel had to cancel several departures Saturday night, following a collision between one of its ferries and another ship in Solent Strait (separating Isle of Wight from mainland England).
Calshot RNLI had to launch at 16:40 Saturday afternoon, September 29, following reports by Solent Coastguard that a motor boat had come into contact with Red Falcon ferry.
The damaged boat was able to sail back to Cowes Harbour from the accident scene off Calshot Spit, and was met by Needles Coastguard Rescue Team.
Two casualties from the boat have been checked over by paramedics from Isle of Wight Ambulance Service. Fortunately, they didn't require further treatment.
Red Funnel pulled the 19:15 car ferry from Southampton and 21:00 ferry from East Cowes due to ‘operational reasons’.
Hampshire Constabulary’s Roads Policing Unit were present at Red Funnel’s ferry terminal last evening.
It was just two days ago during thick fog that one of line’s car ferries crashed into moored boats and a marker in Cowes Harbour.
