Estonia-based shipping company Tallink Grupp ordered an environmentally friendly car and passenger ferry from Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) shipyard in Finland.
To be delivered December 2021, the EUR 250 million (US$ 288 million) Tallink Shuttle ferry is due to accommodate 2,800 people and provide services between Helsinki and Tallinn. The ship will be equipped with the latest systems and technology to ensure it is as environmentally friendly and energy-efficient as possible.

RMC, that has previously worked on 6 Tallink Grupp ferries, will start planning the newbuild in 2019 spring and commence building in 2020. The Tallink Shuttle is the largest newbuild order of Rauma Marine Constructions to date and the company predicts that it will take around “1,500 person-years” to finish, so it has started recruitment drive.
The specific details of the deal and financial arrangements are due to be finalised in the coming months.
