PitPoint-LNG was granted the official permit for the building of a shore-to-ship bunkering station for LNG (liquefied natural gas) in Port Cologne.

The company, which is a joint venture between Primagaz Nederland BV and PitPoint clean fuels, said that civil engineering work was scheduled to begin for the bunkering station.

The LNG station will facilitate bunkering of inland LNG-powered ships operating on Rhine River. It is due to be operational by the 2nd quarter of 2019.

The permit, which is required under German Emission Control Act (Bundes-Immissionsschutzgesetz) to guarantee the safety of liquefied natural gas as fuel for shipping, was formally granted by District Government of Cologne earlier this week.

Building of the LNG bunkering station in Port of Cologne is part of the strategic aim of PitPoint.LNG to develop European LNG infrastructure for transport by water and road.
