The launch date for the new Discovery Yacht from Scenic Cruises, Scenic Eclipse, was pushed back for the second time, to April 13, 2019.
Scenic announced that the delay was due to ongoing financial issues at Uljanik shipyard in Pula Croatia, where the new vessel is currently under construction, along with a strike by specialist engine and systems commissioning workers. The specialist commissioning teams returned to work last week, but it won't be possible to make up for the almost 6 weeks of lost time because of the strike, Scenic added.
In July 2018, the cruise company pushed back the first sailing date for Scenic Eclipse from August 2018 to late January next year, again citing issues with the yard.
In its latest announcement Scenic Cruises revealed that it continued to be in constant contact with Uljanik shipyard, workers’ representatives and Croatian government in order to complete the vessel as soon as possible.
The line said it would provide passengers affected by the change in cruise date with full refund for the cost of the trip, and cover all reasonable costs incurred with changes in travel plans. Additionally, Scenic will provide all clients who rebook a voyage on Scenic Eclipse with a 25% future cruise credit.
