Alabama's only cruise ship will go on docking at Port Mobile. According to Mayor Sandy Stimpson, the port city had extended the contract with Carnival Cruise Line for the company to keep homeport Carnival Fantasy in Mobile Alabama.
It means that the 855-foot-long vessel will continue sailing from Mobile AL through November 2019.
Before losing the contract, Mobile was homeporting another Carnival ship. Fantasy started using it as its port in 2016.
Carnival offers cruises primarily to Western Caribbean out of Mobile. Stimpson said that keeping the ship in Mobile was "part of the city’s effort to become a major tourist destination."
