Designers OSK, builders Guangzhou Shipyard International (Guangzhou China) and owners Rederi AB Gotland jointly celebrated the delivery of Visborg cruiseferry which is the first vessel in a series of 2 newbuilds intended to serve the route between Gotland Island's largest city Visby and mainland Sweden - the ports Oscarshamn and Nynaeshamn.
OSK Group played a significant role in the ship design and development of the powerful dual-fuel RoPax ship. OSK-ShipTech had a dual role in consulting naval architects for the owner during contract and concept designs and for the yard for parts of naval architectural, interior and exterior design.
New energy and emission standards are applied to mv Visborg. The 200-metre ferry has a deadweight capacity of approximately 4800 tons, as well as room for around 1,650 passengers and a total of 1,750 trailer lane metres. Despite the 1200-ton larger displacement than the existing two ships of Gotlandsbolaget (ms Gotland and ms Visby) the design team on the brand new LNG-ferry ensured significant reduction on fuel consumption, CO2, NOx and SOx emissions. MV Visborg will feature service speed of 29 knots.
Sistership Thjelvar is due to make first trials in the beginning of next year and to be delivered during 2019 summer.
