A cruise passenger is missing from the Mobile-based Carnival Fantasy.
According to passenger reports, announcements were made onboard the ship Sunday night, December 16, about a missing male traveller. The passenger was still missing on Monday as onboard security searched the whole vessel.
At the time of accident Fantasy was sailing on a 5-day Western Caribbean voyage after departing from Mobile December 15. The passenger is believed to have gone missing when the ship was cruising to her first port of call, Progreso. Carnival Fantasy is scheduled to be in Cozumel today before arriving back in Mobile December 20.
Carnival confirmed the incident in a statement.
All appropriate authorities have been notified.
The reported accident is the 2nd recently involving a Carnival passenger. The Coast Guard called off search for a man who went overboard on Carnival Victory. 26-year-old Thomas McElhany was a passenger aboard the vessel when he went into the waters south of Islamorada on Friday.
