On Wednesday, December 19, AIDA Cruises welcomed its first guests onboard AIDAnova in Santa Cruz de Tenerife for the premiere voyage around the Canaries and Madeira.
The first cruise ship in the world that can be powered at sea and at port with low-emission LNG (liquefied natural gas) had previously arrived in port Tenerife on December 18, to be fueled for the first time with LNG for her premiere season. Shell LNG tanker “Cardissa” supplied the vessel with the marine fuel with lowest emissions.
With the maiden call of AIDAnova in Tenerife today, Carnival group also celebrated the start of operations of its cruise ship terminal in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
More passengers are awaited onboard AIDAnova on December 22 at Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, the 2nd homeport for the ship in the Canaries. During the premiere season of AIDAnova, she is embarking on 7-day voyages around Canary Islands. The cruise program includes the volcanic landscapes of Tenerife, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, and the Portuguese Madeira Island.
In April 2019, AIDAnova is setting sail for another popular travel spot, the Mediterranean, with destinations including Majorca, Civitavecchia-Rome, Barcelona, Marseille and Livorno scheduled for the summer season.
