As of Monday, December 24, 2018, arriving and departing cruise passengers at Anguilla's Blowing Point feel more comfortable. The Board of Directors of AASPA (Anguilla Air and Sea Ports Authority) announced that port's charter services and ferry operations will now be conducted at the brand new temporary terminal popular as the “Big Jim” building.
AASPA expects the change in operations to reflect the significance it places on moving cruise passengers safely, while seeking to ensure the operations to complement the status of Anguilla as a 5-star destination. Anguilla Air and Sea Ports Authority is thanking the public in advance for the patience during the transition.
The new facility was visited by Governor Tim Foy and Deputy Governor Perin Bradley who congratulated the Ministry of Infrastructure and AASPA for working hard to achieve this.
According to the governor it was a much improved facility for the nearly 400,000 people who passed through the port annually, adding that work for the new permanent facility would start in 2019 with additional changes in the road layout.
The UK government committed nearly US$10 million for the project which is due to be completed early 2020.
