The first vessel for startup cruise company Virgin Voyages is expected to have 2 of the biggest suites at sea.
The Richard Branson-owned cruise company unveiled plans for two of ,147-ft2 suite complexes which will sit atop the bridge of Virgin Voyages' 2860-passenger, adult-only Scarlet Lady, arriving in 2020.
The complexes will be named the Massive Suites and feature a rock music theme that includes music rooms with an amplifier and guitars - a nod to the rock & roll heritage of Virgin Group.
At the center of each suite is planned to be a circular oversized couch for conversation and cocktails from the adjacent in-room bar. Other features include a sprawling bath as well as a dressing room area with two full-sized wardrobes, a vanity area, a hot tub, and a marble-clad bathroom with unique "peek-a-boo" window that is overlooking the ocean and the bedroom.
The complexes will boast unusually large balconies with outdoor showers, hammocks, private hot tubs, and circular conversation pits. The cruise line also revealed plans for 7 other categories of smaller staterooms on Scarlet Lady. There will be a total of 78 suites onboard in all.
British designer Tom Dixon was hired to develop the suites that will be known collectively as RockStar Suites. All of the suites will have access to Richard's Rooftop, a private club with a bar and lounge chairs at the top of the cruise ship.
