A Singapore-flagged ferryboat ran aground at Karang Galang reef, off Batam's coast, Saturday afternoon (March 2), the Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) announced.
Wavemaster 5 ferry was on its way to Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal out of Tanjung Pinang (Indonesia) when the vessel ran aground, MPA revealed.
It received a report at 1:55 p.m. of the accident, which happened off Batam's eastern coast.
There were 50 passengers onboard, the authority said, including 5 Singaporeans and 7 crew members. All were transferred to Wavemaster 6 ferry which was activated by cruise operator Majestic Ferry.
According to MPA, as of 5;50 pm, all passengers were returned to Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal in stable condition. There are no reports of injuries or oil pollution.
The Maritime and Port Authority is investigating the accident.
