MSC Cruises signed final contracts with Fincantieri for the building of 4 small luxury ships. The new vessels will be 64,000 GT and feature 481 suites.
The first of 4 luxury ships for MSC will be delivered in 2023. Following vessels will go into service in 2024, 2025, 2026. The ships are a part of the line’s plan to expand to 29 vessels by 2027.
The luxury cruise ships will feature a highly-innovative design and boast ground-breaking options for passenger comfort and relaxation. They will also offer the latest maritime and environmental technologies.
The announcement follows the signing of a memorandum of agreement between MSC and Fincantieri in October last year. The contracts, that are subject to shipowner financing, feature a total value of more than EUR 2 billion (~USD 2,3 billion).
Since beginning to work with Fincantieri, in 2014, MSC Cruises has also ordered 4 ships for the contemporary MSC Cruises brand, for a value of US$3.6 billion (EUR 3.2 billion). The first two of the ships, MSC Seaview and MSC Seaside, are already in service. The next pair of ships will be delivered in 2021 and 2022. MSC Seashore is already under construction at Fincantieri’s Monfalcone yard.
