Richard Branson’s Virgin brand which started out as Virgin Records unveiled that the billionaire’s South Florida cruise company, Virgin Voyages, is also prioritizing music.
When its first vessel, Scarlet Lady, launches from Miami FL in 2020, she will feature a karaoke lounge, record store, and resident DJs, the cruise line revealed on Wednesday, March 27.
The record store, Voyage Vinyl, will feature listening stations, record collections as well as a performance spot for live disc jockey sets. The onboard bookable karaoke, movie, and gaming lounge will be named The Groupie. DJs in residence who will perform on Scarlet Lady, at ports, and at Virgin’s Bimini destination include British musician Mark Ronson, NY-based band Sofi Tukker, and American DJ MK (Marc Kinchen).
Keeping with the music theme, each of the 78 suites will boast a record player.
Branson announced in 2018 that Virgin will join cruise companies Norwegian, MSC Cruises, and Royal Caribbean by building a cruise terminal at PortMiami FL, planned to open by 2021. Virgin Voyages has ordered 3 more ships, for a total of 4 on the way.
