Monday, April 8, marks the start of 2019 cruise season in Halifax, with the arrival of Oceania Cruises ship Marina at Pier 31.
In 2019, the port expects a total of 190 vessels, down from 198 in 2018, but an overall increase in cruise passengers to around 320,000 from last year’s 316,869. In terms of passenger numbers, it is expected to be the busiest cruise season to date.
The most recent economic impacts' study, including data to the end of 2016, indicates that the cruise ship industry is worth around US$123 million per year for the Halifax region.
