AmaWaterways officially christened its newest river ship, AmaDouro, with a ceremony in Oporto on April 12. The christening ceremony was the final point of the inaugural cruise of AmaDouro which started in Oporto.
Advantage Travel Partnership Chief Executive Officer and AmaDouro Godmother, Julia Lo Bue-Said attended the event together with travel industry partners, media and other guests.
Following the long-standing tradition that is associated with ship christenings, a priest blessed the new riverboat and its crew, and Capt. Pedro Sardo assisted as Lo Bue-Said broke a bottle of champagne against the hull of AmaDouro, signifying good luck on the voyages ahead.
Joining sistership AmaVida which cruises between Oporto and Vega de Terron, the newbuild will be homeported in Oporto for 7-day roundtrips ("Enticing Douro" itineraries) with a 3-night pre-cruise land program in Lisbon. Both riverboats are owned by DouroAzul (subsidiary of Mystic Cruises) and were constructed at WestSEA's shipyard in Viana do Castelo, Portugal.
