AIDAluna successfully ended her wetdock at Blohm+Voss Shipyard (Hamburg, Germany) between April 3-16. The ship now features diverse technical updates and visible refurbishments.
A new attraction onboard is the Almhütte which boasts ski-lodge style, tasty dishes from the Alps, and hearty music. Via the expansion of the restaurant concept, passengers can enjoy pork knuckle, cheese spaetzle noodles, snacks, and fresh draft beer. Service and foods are included in the fare, with a surcharge for drinks.
The new AIDAluna Shopping World is due to be operated by Gebr. Heinemann. The Hamburg family business is AIDA Cruises' longstanding partner and has 140 years’ experience in the worldwide travel market. AIDA Shopping World, now boasting innovative design and 400 m2 space, offers even more choices with the latest trends and famous brands from all over the globe.
The passenger staterooms and some public areas were also modernized, while the restaurants, bars, and the SPA, were given a refit. At the brand new Fujifilm Wonder Photo Shop turns photography into a creative experience via a wide variety of materials.
The time at the shipyard was also used to put in place technical requirements for shoreside power operations. The regular class and maintenance works were carried out, involving the scheduled servicing of the bow and stern thrusters, the stabilizers, and refurbishment of the helm. The electrical propulsion plant of the vessel was also modernized. The exhaust and tank cleaning was also on the agenda, as was industrial coating work.
The smiling lips of AIDAluna were also freshened up.
Following the shipyard visit, the ship began short cruises from Hamburg, Germany on April 16. From May 2019, the “Polar Circle Highlights” and “Baltic & Scandinavia 1” voyages from Kiel are on the program.
