Disney Cruise Line announced the debut of Captain Minnie Mouse. The cruise company aims to inspire the maritime industry's next generation of female leaders.
In addition to the first-ever Captain Minnie, Disney’s new youth programs and funding of scholarships are specially designed to empower young women and girls to pursue the cruise industry careers.
This year, Disney Cruise Line is due to sponsor 4 scholarships (one for each Disney ship) at the Bahamas' LJM Maritime Academy for female cadets who aspire to be shipboard leaders and captains.
Later this year, Captain Minnie is expected to appear in a new youth activity where captain hopefuls practice science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) skills in Disney’s Oceaneer Lab on all Disney ships. She will also visit children in local communities accompanied by a female Disney officer or crew member.
Items in the nautical-themed collection of gifts and apparel tout the tagline, “You Can Call Me Captain.” A new Captain Minnie Mouse plush is to be introduced during summer. Onboard in the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, girls will be able to try a Captain Minnie makeover. PANDORA Jewelry will be available for purchase.
