Construction on the next Royal Caribbean cruise ship started this week at the shipyard in Saint-Nazaire. The cruise line announced that the first piece of steel had been cut on the 5th Oasis-class ship.
The currently unnamed vessel will be the largest in the world at over 225,000GT when it goes into service in 2021. Each of RCI's Oasis-class liners was built slightly bigger than the previous to claim the “World’s Largest Cruise Ship” title.
The itineraries and homeport for Oasis 5 are expected to be announced at a later date. Each of the first 4 Oasis-class ships has sailed out of Florida to the Caribbean.
