Port Helsinki and MSC Cruises inaugurated a newly built berth for mega cruise ships on April 30.
At the occasion of the ceremony, senior leaders of the Port of Helsinki and the cruise line cut the ribbon to celebrate the launch of operations at the new berth.
The new LHD pier at Hernesaari Dock (below photo) is able to accommodate ships with LOA length up to 360 meters. All vessels 215 meters or bigger (serving over 90% of all passengers) will berth at Helsinki's Hernesaari quarter. This further improves efficiency gives the city the chance to further develop cruise shipping services and connections for a greater experience to tourists.
While MSC Meraviglia is not a newcomer in Helsinki the vessel had the honor to inaugurate the new berth. Ms Pia Pakarinen, Deputy Mayor of Helsinki, greeted the ship with her passengers welcome to Helsinki. Michele Francioni, Senior Vice President of MSC Cruises, and Ville Haapasaari, CEO of Port of Helsinki cut the ribbon and officially opened the new berth.
Port Helsinki is handling numerous MSC ship calls during the summer season.
