More than 3,000 litres of diesel fuel have been accidentally spilt into Rhine River by an AmaWaterways passenger ship in Rudesheim in the late evening of April 27.
The diesel that had spilt from the Swiss-flagged river ship AmaDante reportedly stretched out to a length of 28 km (17 mi) in the direction of Koblenz.
According to the crew, the spill occurred as they were transferring diesel from one fuel tank to another onboard the ship.
The Provincial Water Police Force (WSP) and Waterway Transport Prosecutor’s Office in Mainz launched an investigation into the accident.
AmaDante was sailing from Basel to Nuremberg with a total of 180 passengers onboard when the spill occurred.
