A female passenger has gone overboard in the Atlantic ocean after she went missing from a Holland America cruise ship crossing from Ireland to Florida. MS Amsterdam's Captain turned the vessel around in rough seas to search for the cruise passenger after she didn't respond to a call out on Wednesday, May 8. The liner left Glengarriff Ireland Tuesday evening and was headed to its final stop in Fort Lauderdale FL.
The woman went missing at around 1:30 am. Wednesday morning just after the vessel got cleared from any SAR. Passengers had not been informed of the accident until 9:00 a.m.
International coast guards including British crews were searching for the woman but the search, jointly conducted with the assistance of emergency marine operations from several countries was discontinued after many hours.
The cruise ship started its journey from Amsterdam, visiting Ireland and the UK, and is currently headed to Florida.
