Coming from Stockholm Sweden, the latest newbuild of Holland America arrived in Port Kiel, Germany for her maiden call early Thursday morning, May 23. During the shipboard reception, Dr Dirk Claus (port's Managing Director) welcomed the Captain to Schleswig Holstein State's Capital City and presented him with a handmade plaque for vessel’s maiden port call manufactured by metal artist Patrick Schlober.
In addition to ms Nieuw Statendam, ms Zuiderdam will berth at Ostseekai Terminal a number of times during the summer. The 5 different visits by Holland America will bring 12,000 international passengers to the port for day trips. MS Nieuw Statendam is the 4th out of 7 cruise ships visiting Kiel for the first time this season.
MS Nieuw Statendam is currently on a 14-day Baltic Cruise which began in Amsterdam on May 12. Before arriving in Kiel, the ship called in Copenhagen, Tallinn, Saint Petersburg, Helsinki, Stockholm.
During the stay in Kiel, the cruise passengers go on day excursions throughout Northern Germany. When all were back onboard in the afternoon, Nieuw Statendam headed for Aarhus, Denmark at about 5:00 p.m.
The Baltic Cruise will conclude in Amsterdam on May 26.
